SLIPS, trips and falls are amongst the greatest concerns for industry safety managers and have proved to be one of the most difficult of all accidents statistics with which to get to grips. While some companies have come to accept such mishaps as inevitable, CEMEX is not amongst them and came to Daybreak looking for a novel solution.

The outcome is a series of comic animations built around two characters – a site manager known as Monty and an accident-prone worker called Norman. While Monty’s quest is to overcome slips, trips and falls amongst his workforce, Norman tries his patience with a succession of accidents. Each of his cartoon incidents is followed by real video showing the same scenario handled safely. Incidents demonstrated include alighting safely from a lorry, maintaining a tidy workshop and ensuring three points of contact on stairways.

Daybreak conceived and wrote the programme, which is used at CEMEX locations across Europe. The characters and animations came from associate company Bluegfx and the video, sound and editing from ECP Video.
