safety resources could save lives
CUTTING workplace accidents - and potentially saving lives - is the objective behind some new health and safety resources for the quarrying industry. Daybreak played a key role not only in helping to secure over £100,000 of funding, but also in co-ordinating the development of a website, printed guide and DVD.
Daybreak's client, the Quarry Products Association (QPA), led the 14 month initiative. Daybreak's task was to help manage the project team, including website developers, designers and a video production company. Regular liaison with the project partners, such as the Health & Safety Executive and British Aggregates Association, was also part of the remit. Promotional work is now taking place, including securing editorial in key trade magazines.
The highlight of the project is
the dynamic www.safequarry.com, which includes a sophisticated incident alert reporting system. The UK quarrying industry is believed to be one of the first to produce such a comprehensive and accessible web-based health & safety resource.
Having succeeded in cutting accidents by half over five years, QPA members are committed to achieving a further 50 per cent reduction by 2009 with the ultimate target of zero. The association is confident that the new website will make a significant contribution.
