in a crisis...
Ignoring the media when dealing with issues and crises will always prove to be a catastrophic error in judgement. Star Energy, an integrated energy company, asked Daybreak to develop comprehensive plans for handling the media in the event of an emergency at one of it sites. As well as owning gas fields, Star Energy is the 2nd largest onshore UK oil provider.

Daybreak will be on hand 24/7 to assist Star Energy with the media if an emergency arises, such as a fire or explosion. In order to prepare for such an incident, Daybreak produced a Crisis Media Protocol which contains a step-by-step guide showing the stages that it would go through in responding to media enquiries. Daybreak also prepared a brief for staff on sites that stated what they can and can’t say to with the media, and a fact file for internal use which contains profiles of each of Star Energy’s operation. This ensures that any negatives are balanced with positives which demonstrate the benefits the company brings.

CSS chooses Daybreak
The County Surveyors Society (CSS) has appointed Daybreak to handle its PR after a three-way pitch. The CSS represents strategic directors in local government responsible for handling some of the toughest issues of our times, including the future of our transport systems and waste management.

Daybreak’s key challenge for CSS is to switch its focus from internal to external and to achieve wider recognition for the vital role that its members play in modern life. While road engineering is still a key function, CSS members now take a lead on wider strategic issues such as the future of our transport systems, the drive to recycle more of our waste, conserving energy and planning for sustainable communities.

As a first step, Daybreak is rebuilding CSS’s currently member-focused website and creating a bold public face around its stance on issues of the moment. The site will also provide access to CSS’s extensive research library, and promote its high profile conferences and other events.Members will have their own greatly enhanced area of the site, including a forum through which to exchange views.
